SPOTLIGHT ON: South West Global Success Stories

This month International Trade Matters is shining a light on some of the South West’s quiet export success stories during, and coming out of Covid-19 lockdown.

Audax Body Worn Video

From body-worn video camera exports and tourist attractions, to audio and PR delivery on the global stage…

Devon-based public safety company Audax Global Solutions Ltd is one of the region’s quiet export success stories, and throughout the Covid-19 lockdown was very busy securing export orders.

In the last few months alone Audax has shipped 2500 of its Body Worn Video (BWV) systems to the Vietnamese Police, and is currently looking at the North American market place.

Audax has quadrupled its turnover from the previous year with two thirds of its sales coming from UK exports.

Managing Director of Audax, Adam Liardet, said; “Audax are worldwide pioneers in developing Body Worn Video (BWV) technology, with the UK and overseas organisations ordering our devices because they are compliant for evidential purposes”

“We have recruited 3 new members of staff this year, and not had to furlough any of the team.”

“Having been involved in supplying public safety products for over 16 years, with all Audax staff having a military background, we are well experienced and trained to deal with unusual events.”

The company’s main HQ is based in Plymouth, with satellite offices in Kent, Belgium and Bulgaria.

Deer Park Country House in East Devon is another export success enjoying a remarkable renaissance following its new chapter from hotel to a private house.

Mark Godfrey, Deer Park

The elegant Georgian manor was attracting many overseas visitors wanting to explore a bygone age of opulence, prior to Covid-19 lockdown, and with the South West tourism sector now looking to reopen for business, Deer Park will be in the front of the queue.

Grade 2 listed Deer Park, is set in 80 acres of glorious countryside and woodland and run by Managing Director Mark Godfrey, who was brought in to maximise its potential on the international stage – where overseas royalty and VIPs book the house for private holidays.

“I was brought in to turn around one of Devon’s grandest homes, and reposition, refurbish, and develop a business model to maximise our business potential for the UK and international marketplace,” said Mr Godfrey.

Meanwhile, Plymouth-based Fresh Air Group works internationally, helping UK and overseas companies communicate by using audio in many ways.

Paul Philpott, Fresh Air Group

Chief executive of Fresh Air Group, Paul Philpott, said; “We’ve been making a lot of noise since 1998, and been supporting UK businesses through the Covid-19 lockdown with advice, support, and promoting our partnerships online.”

Fresh Air Group helps companies use audio in many ways from internal podcasts to Interactive Voice Response (IVR), a technology that allows a computer to interact with humans through the use of voice and DTMF tones input via the keypad.

The company has over 20 years’ experience working on the international stage in communicative audio, and provides podcast strategy workshops, that are about recording to achieve results, said Mr Philpott.

Dorcas Media is celebrating 7 years working across the UK, Europe and the Far East, and recently launched in association with International Trade Matters “Global PR Matters” online magazine to promote local business successes in the global market place.
